Last week, Jason and I decided that we didn't want to turn on the TV until 8:00 during the week (not counting the Dora shows I watch during the day with Halle, of course). The goal is to do something active as a family after he gets home from work instead of plopping down on the couch, getting lazier and flabbier by the second. Even though I had what I'm now calling the flu last week, I still managed to get out of the house and do something active twice last week. One evening we took Halle to the pool for a family swim, and another evening (on Corgan's birth date actually), we rode our bikes to dinner and back.
This week we're off to a good start too! The family got all bathing suited up yesterday and went down to the pool only to find that it was closed. Sign read: "No Fresh Water". I guess that's code for "Some kid left a floater." :) We took Halle to the park for a few minutes since it's next to the pool. There was a funny moment when, breeze in my hair, remembering how fun swinging on swings can be, I looked to my right and saw Jason swinging just as high. Then I looked to my left and saw Halle standing there on the ground, watching us. Something felt wrong about that, but Halle didn't seem to mind. :) As we walked back home, I felt disappointed that we didn't really get any exercise (thanks to Erica's post yesterday, I was motivated to get in some cardio). So we decided to change into running attire, and took the whole family (including Biscuit) for an evening jog. I don't think I've run at all since the triathlon last October (10 months ago!), so I didn't have the highest expectations for myself. Jason and Biscuit took off right away, and I had Halle in the jog stroller. I'm incredibly pleased to tell you that I jogged, pushing Halle in the stroller, for an entire mile without walking one step!! This may not seem like much of an accomplishment to you, but believe me. Going out the first day and jogging a complete mile is one serious accomplishment for me. I felt so good while I was jogging, and even better afterwards.
Here's hoping that the exercise bug enjoys an extended stay this time around! :)

Awesome for getting your whole family involved!! I didn't quite meet my goal yesterday, but I really believe every little bit counts. Here's hoping we all catch the bug!
It is catchy! I have been running for about 2 solid years now and I can't get enough of it! I don't feel good when I miss working out :) Good for you!
Kathy
Joe and I have been trying that approach with the TV. We've been trying to go in the pool everyday instead of watching tv.
Good luck!! I won't be joining in on the jogging for awhile but as soon as this baby is out I'm up for it.
As soon as it is not 100 degrees around here, we will be outside every evening. We want to join in the outdoor party!
Good for you (and Erica too)! Just getting into the swing of exercising again is a big step I think.
I'm paying a personal trainer a LOT of money right now to keep me motivated enough to go to the gym, and it's only a mile away from my apartment!
I agree w/Angelle...it's too frickin' hot to be outside!!!
Umm yeah, jogging 1 mile without stopping is a huge thing! I think it took me and Laurie like 16 minutes to "run" the mile in middle school! Have fun with all your exercising and family together time!
